About Me
I'm a writer and mom living in Oakland. This is my personal blog; I write about parenting, cooking, local issues, books, and anything else that's rattling around inside my head.
I am the author of The Millennial Sword, an urban fantasy novel set in San Francisco, and two read-aloud picture books for kids, The Big Booger Bubble and Gail Murphy and the Piskies.

Lookit the big boy in his big boy backpack!
We actually have an adorable backpack for Silas, but were sadly unable to think of anything to put in it that would justify his wearing it to school.

Robin carries his lunch in his pack! It’s a froggie backpack, and I pack his lunch in this froggie bento: http://amzn.com/B00200L84A (I’m pretty sure I found that through Wendy’s site, wendolonia.)
Robin also has a number of alternate backpacks that he’s been given as presents. He has a Thomas backpack that’s currently holding his trains, and a spiky monster backpack that we think we might use for camping. Some of those might see school-day duty too, if we decide to switch it up a bit. Also Sam is totally enamored of the Crocodile Creek robot design, which they sell at Whole Foods: http://amzn.com/B004N2XHO2 (It has a matching backpack too). So that might be in his future as well. The backpack situation is a bit ridiculous really.

Right? SO CUTE.
I need to get some of those little silicon cups and dividers, though. I wanted to send pita wedges and hummus, but there was no good way to keep the hummus contained.

Although, Wendy, there IS one thing that bothers me, and maybe you can help clear it up. Why is the froggie crying?

What an interesting school philosophy! Sounds like a great way to get kids start school without having to cry for a couple of weeks at the begining. It’s also good for finding community support for parenting job as well!
On a side note – The boys are really cute in their pictures! 🙂

Thank you so much! Mom said she had a wonderful time visiting you recently and that your kids seem to be doing great 🙂

Yes – we did! Hope to get with you all some time so the boys can mingle. 🙂
