New Camera
I got a fancy new camera (well, a fancy new-to-me camera: I bought it used) so this afternoon I went around snapping a lot of pictures of random things. Like knick-knacks on a bookshelf:
and chickens:
and flowers:
and my little garden, which is now bursting over its boundaries:
I’ve learned an important lesson about squash and zucchini, by the way. Squash and zucchini don’t play nice in an intensive gardening set-up. They’ve already swallowed up the eggplant and the artichoke and are muscling in on the thyme and the chives. The mint is fighting back, though, and the tomato plants are holding their own and protecting the basil and parsley as well. Next year the squash and zucchini get their own bed.

Oh, HOORAY! I’m always wildly excited for people who get fancy new-to-them cameras. SO MUCH FUN. Enjoy! I dig your knick-knacks. The pic of your chicken is fantastic–look at that look she’s giving the camera. She looks so like a fierce dragon there, or possibly a phoenix. I love it.

The chicken’s eye was my favorite thing about that photo!

Hey, you didn’t say what kind of camera. What are the specs!?

It’s the Leica D-Lux 5. I would’ve just gotten the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 (which is basically the same camera), except that I found the used Leica on sale *with* its leather carrying case, which I have to admit I coveted to a kind of unreasonable extent.

Oh and mine was a lot cheaper than the used price Amazon is quoting now.

I totally want one! Envy!

Honestly, it’s taking way better point-and-click shots than my previous cameras ever have. I’m not a sophisticated photographer, and I’ve always been frustrated by how I can *see* something and not be able to capture it through a camera. The Leica is easing that frustration quite a bit.
