Anxiety
Sol had a pretty disastrous weigh in yesterday. He actually weighs a few ounces less than he did two weeks ago and still hasn’t regained his birth weight. This during a time when babies should be growing rapidly. I’ve been worried about his growth for a while and it sucks to know that my concerns are very real.
We’re making a concerted effort to make sure he nurses every two hours, and if he doesn’t start putting on weight immediately, we’ll switch to formula.
Update 4/26: Sol’s weight check was good today (up nearly half a pound) after two days of all but force feeding him. Seriously, I’ve basically been nursing him nonstop, leaving Sam to deal with the needs of the other kids. Thank God for paternity leave.

oh god, how scary. *hugs* if you do end up with formula, i have lots of handy tips… there are downsides, but there are upsides too.
i’ll be sending fattening thoughts to the little guy.

I am so sorry to hear this. Ibby hasn’t eaten a meal since Friday night (she has a hideous stomach bug), so I am familiar right now with how it feels to be a mother who urgently wants her child to eat and put on weight–but I know that it’s magnified a thousand-fold when the child is just a few weeks old. You must be so exhausted. I’m thinking of you and Sol!

Oh god, I’m so sorry that we’re sharing this shitty experience! I hope Ibby bounces back soon.

So sorry he’s not packing on the ounces, but glad that you’re on top of it. (And very glad you’re ready to switch to formula. I’ve known a couple folks who held off longer than they should’ve.)

We’re going to weigh him again tomorrow, and if he hasn’t gained an ounce, he’s going on formula.

I struggled with slow weight gain with both of my guys their first month of nursing. With Alan we supplemented the first month. With Elias we did weekly weight checks and after a month the weight gain started to happen. I hear the anxiety though. I went through it both times. Good luck and remember stress doesn’t help so go easy on yourself.

Thanks Jessie! Sol is a month old now, so I reeeeaaalllly hope the weight gain starts to happen NOW.

Sigh, that’s no fun at all 🙁
You should all just be luxuriating in the “new baby”ness instead of worrying about ounces.

Ibby is feeling MUCH better today. I am so very happy to hear that Sol is putting on weight! I’ve been thinking about you both.
