He&#8217;s just now getting comfortable with it:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  \"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/siduri\/5388852195\/\" title=\"on a roll by Jo Shannon Phillips, on Flickr\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5173\/5388852195_55c1b30883.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"on a roll\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Watching him scoot around on the bike reminds me of a poem that hit me hard when I first read it last year: &#8220;To A Daughter Leaving Home,&#8221; by Linda Pastan.<\/p>\n<p>When I taught you<br \/>\nat eight to ride<br \/>\na bicycle, loping along<br \/>\nbeside you<br \/>\nas you wobbled away<br \/>\non two round wheels,<br \/>\nmy own mouth rounding<br \/>\nin surprise when you pulled<br \/>\nahead down the curved<br \/>\npath of the park,<br \/>\nI kept waiting<br \/>\nfor the thud<br \/>\nof your crash as I<br \/>\nsprinted to catch up,<br \/>\nwhile you grew<br \/>\nsmaller, more breakable<br \/>\nwith distance,<br \/>\npumping, pumping<br \/>\nfor your life, screaming<br \/>\nwith laughter,<br \/>\nthe hair flapping<br \/>\nbehind you like a<br \/>\nhandkerchief waving<br \/>\ngoodbye.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We got this bike for Robin a year too early.
